2023 Wildfire Season

Wildfire season is a time of year when many parts of Solano County are at risk of devastating fires. As temperatures rise and dry conditions persist, the risk of wildfire increases. Preparing for wildfire season is crucial to keeping you and your community safe.

One of the most important things you can do to prepare for wildfire season is to create a defensible space around your home. This means clearing away dead brush and trees, and keeping the grass around your home short. This can help to slow the spread of a wildfire and give firefighters a better chance of protecting your home.

Another important step in preparing for wildfire season is to have a plan in place for evacuation. Make sure that you know the evacuation routes in your area, and have a plan for where you will go if you need to leave your home. It is also a good idea to have a grab-and-go bag ready, with essentials like clothes, medications, and important documents.

You should also be prepared to protect your home from wildfire. This may include installing fire-resistant landscaping, creating a fire break around your property, and making sure that your gutters and roof are free of debris. You should also have a hose and a ladder that can reach your roof, in case you need to put out any embers that may land on your roof.

In addition to preparing for the wildfires, be aware of the current fire warnings and the weather forecast in the area. Keep an eye on the news and stay informed about any evacuation orders or other important information.

Consider attending a local Solano County Fire Safe Council meeting and find out how you can help yourself and your community prepare for a wildfire event.
